There's a girl who sees ghosts (Ashley), witches, faeries, angels, werewolves, vampires, demons, and more. And indeed, the final showdown is between a demon and an angel, which is always an epic battle the whole family will enjoy - as long as they are over the age of 17, because no kids are invited to this party. And speaking of interesting types of characters.. there was an appropriate amount of buildup to the reader finding out what Cristian really is, but once that's revealed.. it seems like sort of a let down. Like with all that build up, I was expecting more of a reaction from those not in-the-know, but it seemed to me that they moved on a little too quickly. Same with the disappearance of ghosts. Oh sure, Ashley is bothered by it when she's reminded of it, but it's not something that really bugs her, though we get the feeling it should be. And in fact, there was a time... One star is too much but you have to put something. It was nonsensical, repetitive, slow and just plain awful. The hero was a jerk and the heroine was an empty headed ninny. Neither were admirable in any way. There was another "man" introduced as a possible love interest but he was not a serious contender just thrown in for I don't know why. Where's the heroines father is one of the main plot points and yet she asks almost no one this reasonable question. How is she supposed to find out?, she asks the ghosts in the house but in a round about way since she explains she doesn't want them to know how badly she wants that information! What? And so goes the story, I need to know this or that but I won't ask. I'm mad or upset in some way but I will not say a thing, we'll go for a walk, we'll have some stupid conversation that is about nothing, I will fall down on top of one of the other characters, it's just too stupid to be... The main character Ashley is a complete idiot. I absolutely hated her! She would ask questions that she "absolutely needed" the answer to and then she would refuse to believe what the other person was telling her! This happened constantly throughout the book. She just wouldn't believe anything, even though the evidence was right before her eyes. And every other page she would be terrified or shocked speechless over something so stupid and trivial. Honestly it made me so angry I started yelling at my Kindle on more than one occasion. I had to take breaks just to get 3/4 through the book. By that time I wanted her to die, I really did. All she did was whine, demand answers (that once gotten she refused to believe, of course), become angry, and did ridiculous things that had me asking incredulously 'Really?'.
